Description
Ashwagandha — Withania somnifera — is one of the most revered herbs in Ayurveda, classed as a Rasayana: a rejuvenative that restores strength, calm and vitality. Its name evokes the strength of a horse, and it carries Tikta (bitter), Katu (pungent) and Kashaya (astringent) rasa with an Ushna (warming) potency, pacifying Vata and Kapha dosha.
In this tradition the root is the classic adaptogen — traditionally taken to help the body meet stress with steadiness, to ease the mind into restful sleep, and to build enduring energy, stamina and resilience over time. It is long valued to support vitality and hormonal balance, and is taken as a daily restorative rather than a quick stimulant.
Our ashwagandha root is cut and gently dried for brewing, preserving its earthy character. Traditionally the root is prepared as a warm decoction — simmered, or steeped long — and enjoyed on its own, with honey, or in the classic Ayurvedic pairing with warm milk before sleep.
How to Use
As a decoction: Simmer 1 teaspoon (about 2g) of the cut root in a cup of water (or milk) for 8–10 minutes, then strain. Naturally caffeine-free.
The classic nightcap: Prepare with warm milk and a little honey before bed — the traditional Ayurvedic way.
Blend it: Combine with a little ginger or cinnamon for a warming, restorative cup.
Good to know Ashwagandha is a restorative taken over time, not a quick stimulant. It is traditionally avoided during pregnancy. If you have a thyroid condition, or take sedative, thyroid or immune-modulating medication, consult your doctor before regular use.

Sourcing
Ashwagandha is grown and gathered from small farms and home gardens. The root is cleaned, cut and gently dried. Much of this produce is naturally free of chemical inputs but not yet connected to organic networks; supporting these growers is part of our ongoing Regenerative Agriculture pilot.
