Description
It may seem as if coconuts are having a moment right now, but look to Sri Lanka’s history, life and culture and you will realise it has been a love affair for the ages. Part of the love is down to the health benefits the rest of the world is only now waking up to. The rest is down to its gorgeous flavour, it’s flexibility as an ingredient and that tropical magic you can’t quite explain – but only try and feel.
Goodfolks encapsulates all this in this delightful plant-based, 100% natural, minimally processed coconut spread – now gaining popularity as Coconut Spread. It is made by blending coconut with unrefined Coconut Treacle (a natural sweetener). That’s it. Nothing else. Really!
Pop one of these jars open and what you will find is something similar to a nut butter – but with zero guilt (cough-cough- no palm oil). You can spread it on toast, crepes, pancakes, rottis, mix it into cakes, frosting, deserts, pastries and on and on. It is just such a delightful spread and truly delicious.
Now because this does not contain any preservatives or stabilisers, it does tend to harden in really cold climate or separate if the temperature is too hot. So it does need some TLC but that only goes to prove that this really is a natural product. Visit our socials to see a host of recipes inspired by this amazing Coconut Spread.
How it's made
Sri Lankan Coconuts are generally considered superior to coconuts from elsewhere in the world. It has a creaminess and taste that makes it incomparable. One distinct reason is the level of human attention given from planting to harvesting.
The coconut used for this product is harvested from organic certified farms. The coconut flesh is then converted to desiccated coconut which is then made to a rich cream. Coconut Treacle (a Low GI) Unrefined natural sweetener is then added for that sweetness and texture. Organic ingredients such as pineapple or cocoa powder is then added to complete the product. It is that simple.
Of course all this is done at state-of-the-art facilities meeting international standards (ISO/FSSC). These manufacturing facilities as well as our work as coconut product exporters are closely monitored and regulated by the Coconut Development Authority of Sri Lanka.
This way, you can be assured that every jar of Coconut Spread that comes to you has gone through all this love and meticulous attention to detail.
Storage & Use
Coconut Jam is 100% Natural. This means no artificial additives. So no preservatives or stabilisers either. And because coconut is the base this product may harden in very cold temperatures or separate in very warm conditions. This is a sign of its purity and naturalness – makes you wonder about all those products that don’t even shudder as they spend years and years on shelves doesn’t it?
Well if your Coconut Jam hardens, place it in a bowl of hot water and allow it to melt. Microwaving will affect the texture so if you are not in a hurry give it a nice warm bath. If it separates, mix well and leave in the refrigerator. If you leave this product in the pantry or kitchen at room temperature it will not cause any problems.
Once opened, it is advised to consume the contents within 30 days. (Although legend says a jar of opened coconut Jam has never lasted that long without being happily consumed.)
